Basketball Recap: Wheeler County Falls Despite Big Games from Derrionna Madison and Nikita James

Wheeler County lost against Wilcox County two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Wheeler County Bulldogs took a hard 55-36 fall against the Wilcox County Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 461st, while the Patriots are ranked 122nd).

Nikita James and Derrionna Madison certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. James went 7 for 16 to rack up 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Madison posted four points and three steals. James' evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points.

Leading Wilcox County to victory were Shamauri Martin and Zariah Martin. Shamauri had 17 points in addition to six steals and five assists, while Zariah went 5 of 10 en route to 10 points along with eight steals and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Zariah now owns an excellent 45.1% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Tyliah Benjamin, who put up ten points and eight rebounds.

Wheeler County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Wilcox County, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season.

Wheeler County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-48 defeat against Dublin on the 31st. As for Wilcox County, they have also already played their next contest, a 53-22 victory against Hawkinsville on the 1st.
