Basketball Game Preview: Amherst County Lancers vs. Brookville Bees

Amherst County has gone 8-2 against Brookville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Amherst County Lancers will head out on the road to square off against the Brookville Bees at 7:00 p.m. Brookville took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Amherst County, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 13 losses in a row, Amherst County turned things around against Liberty on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 75-58 victory over the Minutemen. The Lancers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Amherst County found their leader in sophomore Colton Christian, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for Christian. Another player making a difference was Braeden Hicks, who went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Brookville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a blow against Heritage, falling 52-24. While losing is never fun, the Bees can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Pioneers are ranked 153rd).

Brookville's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Amherst County, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-13.

Everything went Amherst County's way against Brookville in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Amherst County made off with a 65-43 victory. Will Amherst County repeat their success, or does Brookville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
