Baseball Game Preview: Port Washington Pirates vs. Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers

The Port Washington Pirates will challenge the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers on Tuesday. Kettle Moraine Lutheran took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Port Washington, who comes in off a win.

Port Washington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Augustine Prep 24-1. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sam Hoeft made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hoeft was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Port Washington's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-15 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Kettle Moraine Lutheran fell victim to Slinger and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Owls. The loss continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Owls: they've now lost three in a row.

Port Washington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-15 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Kettle Moraine Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.

Port Washington might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from Kettle Moraine Lutheran in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
