The Sunnyside Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Sunnyside's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Rincon/University as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Rangers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
ALFREDO ENCINAS was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. ENCINAS was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
In other pitching news, EMRICK THOMPSON looked comfortable as he went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on JORGE RUIZ, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rincon/University only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Tucson High Magnet School waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Tigers 8-0. Give the Badgers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Juan Hernandez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aldo Teilon was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Tenochtli Nepan Ollin, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Tucson High Magnet School now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Sunnyside, their record is now 12-8.
Sunnyside was able to grind out a solid victory over Tucson High Magnet School in their previous meeting last Tuesday, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
