Basketball Game Preview: Flanagan-Cornell Falcons vs. Tremont Turks

Flanagan-Cornell is 2-8 against Tremont since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Flanagan-Cornell Falcons will challenge the Tremont Turks at 7:00 p.m. Flanagan-Cornell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.

Last Saturday, Flanagan-Cornell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-47 to Roanoke-Benson.

Flanagan-Cornell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Logan Ruddy, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, and Rudra Patel, who posted 12 points and five assists. Ruddy also posted six blocks, which is notable because Flanagan-Cornell is 11-1 when he posts at least five blocks, but 1-4 otherwise. Connor Reed was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Tremont entered their tilt with Deer Creek-Mackinaw on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They secured a 57-51 W over the Chiefs. Given the Turks' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Chiefs are ranked 521st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tremont is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Flanagan-Cornell, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Flanagan-Cornell came out on top in a nail-biter against Tremont when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 66-63. The rematch might be a little tougher for Flanagan-Cornell since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
