Baseball Game Preview: J.R. Tucker Tigers vs. Mechanicsville Mustangs

J.R. Tucker hasn't had much luck against Mechanicsville recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Tigers will host the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. J.R. Tucker will be strutting in after a win while Mechanicsville will be coming in after a loss.

On Tuesday, J.R. Tucker had just enough and edged out Maggie Walker 5-4.

Gabriel Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yamal Ferguson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. J.R. Tucker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maggie Walker only posted an OBP of .348.

Meanwhile, Mechanicsville faced Hanover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mustangs fell 6-2 to the Hawks. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

J.R. Tucker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mechanicsville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
