Softball Recap: Granville Blue Aces vs. Licking Valley Panthers
Granville extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They came up short against the Licking Valley Panthers, falling 13-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on April 11th.
As for Licking Valley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
For Licking Valley's part, Emory Whisner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Whisner has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Alexa Gilliam was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Addison Justice, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Looking ahead, Granville will welcome Mt. Vernon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Blue Aces surely won't give up without a fight. As for Licking Valley, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-0 victory against Lakewood on the 30th.
