Wabash gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mississinewa Indians, sneaking past 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mackey Sorg made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Sorg was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Derek Reed was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Jacob White was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Mississinewa's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Coming up, Wabash will take on Carroll at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Apaches are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mississinewa, they will face off against Jay County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
