Scinto, Huntley, Ward, Johnson and Stangel Selected as MaxPreps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

MaxPreps NFCA Players of the Week (Week 5/13-5/19/2013)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For their outstanding performances during games occurring over May 13-19, Morgan Scinto of Seymour (Seymour, Conn.) High School, Alyssa Huntley of Utica Stevenson (Sterling Heights, Mich.) High School, Holly Ward of Haleyville (Haleyville, Ala.) High School, Cara Johnson of Lyons (Lyons, Kan.) High School and Casey Stangel of Lake City (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) High School have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week.

EAST REGION: A senior outfielder/third baseman for the Wildcats, Scinto was a truly impressive 11-for-12 at the plate over the past week for a .917 batting average with a double, three runs scored and five RBIs. She was a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs during both a 20-2 win over St. Paul Catholic (Conn.) and a 15-0 rout of Wolcott (Conn.), while going 3-for-4 with a RBI in a 9-0 triumph against Watertown (Conn.). For the season Scinto is hitting at a blistering .575 clip with 23 tallies, a double and 11 RBIs.

NORTH REGION: A senior pitcher/infielder for the Titans, Huntley had a remarkable week batting .615 (16-for-26) with seven runs scored, five doubles, two HR's and 11 RBIs, while also posting a 5-1 pitching record with a 0.65 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 43 innings of work. She hit safely in eight of nine total contests and K'ed 11 during victories over both Farmington (Mich.) and Utica Ford (Mich.). For the year Huntley boasts a 17-3 overall mark with a 0.64 ERA and 157 K's in 131.1 innings, while hitting .474 with 10 doubles and 27 RBIs.

SOUTH REGION: A junior pitcher/outfielder for the Lions, Ward batted .533 (8-for-15) with four doubles, a HR and four RBIs, while also recording a 4-1 pitching mark with a 0.00 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 39 innings of work. She posted at least one hit during all five contests last week, posting a season-high-tying 4-for-4 effort with two doubles and three RBIs while tossing a no-hitter during an 8-0 win over Alabama Christian Academy. For the season Ward is 27-9 with 310 K's over 250.2 frames, while hitting .419 with 27 doubles, five HR's and 50 RBIs.

SOUTH CENTRAL REGION: A senior second baseman for the Lions, Johnson failed to reach base in only one plate appearance, going 11-for-12 overall for a .917 batting average with two doubles, a HR, six runs scored and eight RBIs. Her finest effort came during a 9-8 triumph over Hillsboro (Kan.) as she went a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish with two tallies and three RBIs. On the season she's currently hitting at a .526 clip with 26 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, four HR's and 36 RBIs.

WEST REGION: A senior pitcher/first baseman for the Timberwolves, Stangel was 4-0 from the circle this past week with a 0.54 ERA, 28 strikeouts over 26 innings and also fired a no-hitter during a 10-0 (six inn.) triumph over Skyline (Idaho). She hit .333 at the dish (4-for-12) with five runs scored, two HR's and three RBIs. For the season Stangel is a perfect 26-0 from the circle with a 0.72 ERA and 198 strikeouts over 137 frames, while also hitting a staggering .640 overall with 54 runs scored, 18 doubles, 15 HR's and 65 RBIs.

The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
