Baseball Recap: Sevastopol Sets Scoring Season-High Against Port Edwards

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sevastopol). They came out on top against the Port Edwards Blackhawks by a score of 12-8 on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Pioneers with their most commanding win of the season.

Andrew Wiesner was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Wiesner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Grooters, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marek O'Dean, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Sevastopol kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Sevastopol pushed their record up to 3-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Port Edwards, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
