Baseball Recap: Mt. Carmel Beats Newton for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Mt. Carmel won against Fairfield last Saturday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Mt. Carmel walked away with an 8-5 win over the Newton Eagles. The Golden Aces' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Brendan Bowser made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Levi Banks and Asher Coston did most of the damage at the plate: Banks scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Coston scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was River Deisher, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Mt. Carmel's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newton, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Carmel will face off against Grayville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newton, they will take on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
