Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Saints vs. Cary Academy Chargers

St. Mary hasn't had much luck against Cary Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The St. Mary's Saints will face off against the Cary Academy Chargers at 5:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Wednesday, St. Mary's ended up a good deal behind Ravenscroft and lost 49-31. The matchup marked the Saints' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Cary Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ravenscroft.

St. Mary's will need focus on slowing down Gabrielle Young, one of several Cary Academy players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 18 points and six boards. The game was Young's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Avni Lutz, who put up eight points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

St. Mary's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Cary Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.

St. Mary's came up short against Cary Academy in their previous meeting back in January, falling 47-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Young, who went 9 of 17 en route to 23 points. Now that St. Mary's knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
