Baseball Recap: Independence Victorious

Independence won the last time they faced PikeView and things went their way on Monday too. The Patriots had just enough and edged out the Panthers 11-9.

Independence got a great performance from Chance Moore as he struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Moore a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Independence let Hunter Milam and Andrew Coalson run wild. Milam got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Coalson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Coalson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Degan Williams, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Independence has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for PikeView, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-8.

Coming up, Independence will welcome Greenbrier East at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for PikeView, they will face off against Sissonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
