York and Smithfield are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Packers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. York will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
York took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Warhill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons skirted past the Lions 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since May 7, 2024.
Sarah Witt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bri Petrolia, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kenlee Washington, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Grassfield hit Smithfield with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Packers might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Grizzlies, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Packers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
York pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Smithfield, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. York has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .524. However, it's not like Smithfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
York took their win against Smithfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Packers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
