Softball Recap: Deer Lakes Victorious

Deer Lakes lost to Southmoreland on Thursday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Lancers had just enough and edged out the Scotties 6-5.

Laney Dineff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ava Shea was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Spagnolo, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Deer Lakes hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Deer Lakes' victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Southmoreland, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coincidentally, Deer Lakes and Southmoreland will both be playing Yough the next time they take the field. The Lancers will head out to face the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Scotties will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
