Football Recap: Calhoun Comes Up Short

Calhoun's last matchup with La Vernia could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. The Sandcrabs were dealt a 38-3 loss at the hands of the Bears. The contest marked the Sandcrabs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Izaiah Cabrales threw for 63 yards. Holton Hadley was his top target, picking up 43 receiving yards.

It was another big night for COOPER NULL, who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries, and also threw for 34 yards and one touchdown for La Vernia. NULL's longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. SEAN GARZA was another key player, rushing for 57 yards and one score on only five carries.

Calhoun's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-4. As for La Vernia, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun will head out to challenge Jones at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sandcrabs will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.83 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for La Vernia, they will take on Bay City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: NULL and Keimarion Wiggins.
