Baseball Game Preview: Hampton Talbots vs. Hopewell Vikings

For the second straight game, Hampton will face off against Hopewell. The Talbots will venture away from home to take on the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Hampton is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since May 7, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Hopewell, falling 8-1. The Talbots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Hopewell's part, David Medich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. Medich has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, James Gill was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Drew Donovan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hopewell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Hopewell and bumps their season record up to 4-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Hampton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
