League recap: Lompoc tops Morro Bay to extend winning streak

Lompoc extended the longest winning streak in Los Padres this week by beating Morro Bay, 49-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Braves.

Nipomo made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,419 from 9,763. The advance stemmed from a 36-18 victory over the Titans last week.

Nipomo's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Luke Shurtleff threw for 181 and three touchdowns and Josh Sundberg had 60 yards receiving. On the ground Tommy Saenz chipped in 165 yards. Saenz helped Nipomo's passing attack out by catching four balls for 48 yards.

Russ Edwards's team's Shurtleff and Ian Wilkinson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Shurtleff has thrown for 890 yards this season, while Wilkinson, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 25 catches for 230 yards. Lompoc's Lavon Coleman leads the league in rushing yards with 464.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Santa Maria takes on Templeton. At the moment, the Saints are in fifth, while the Eagles are in second.

Cabrillo led Los Padres in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Santa Maria.
