High school basketball: Four-star junior Travis Perry becomes 37th player to surpass 4,000 career points

Four-star junior Travis Perry of Lyon County (Eddyville, Ky.) surpassed 4,000 career points Saturday night, scoring a team-high 32 points in a 66-61 victory over Bracken County (Brooksville, Ky.). The No. 86 ranked player in the Class of 2024 needed 10 points to cross the 4,000 threshold and sits at 4,022 points.

Perry recently set the state record for most 3-point field goals made in a career when he connected on the 464th shot from behind the arc. He's 315 points shy of breaking Kelly Coleman's state record of 4,337 career points set in 1956.

The 6-foot-2 guard is having a dominant junior campaign this season, averaging 30.8 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 51.6 percent from the field, 46.6 percent from 3-point range and 87.7 percent from the free throw line.

Perry has played varsity at Lyon County since seventh grade and has led the team in scoring each season. He averaged 20.6 points in seventh grade, 26.6 points in eighth grade, 27.3 points as a freshman and 27.5 points as a sophomore.

He's the 37th player in high school basketball history to eclipse 4,000 career points and sits at No. 33 on the career national scoring list with four games remaining in regular season play and his full senior season. The prolific scorer is on pace to become the 10th member of the 5,000-point club.



He holds 17 college offers including Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest among others.
