Basketball Recap: Fort Myers Takes a Loss

Fort Myers played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Palmetto Ridge Bears and fell 75-33. The Green Wave's defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Fort Myers still got an impressive performance from Skye Douglas, who posted eight points and three steals. Douglas is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zariah Rahirez, who earned eight points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palmetto Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Haley Cousins, who went 7 for 10 on her way to 19 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Cousins has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Melody Charlton, who went 7 of 15 en route to 16 points along with eight assists and five steals.

Fort Myers' loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Palmetto Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Fort Myers wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-36 defeat against Cape Coral on the 24th. As for Palmetto Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-53 loss against Pine Crest on the 25th.
