Softball Recap: Westerly Takes Down Ranked Prout

Westerly faced Prout in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Crusaders, sneaking past 3-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-2 back in April.

Avery Gingerella spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Keegan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abi Emery, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Westerly's record now sits at 12-7-1. As for Prout, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Westerly will challenge rival La Salle Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.2, the Rams 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Prout is set to square off against their familiar foe Smithfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
