Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Wyatt Clemence and Wayne Jurica Lead Smithson Valley to Victory

While Smithson Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Hanks Knights by a score of 52-40 on Friday. Given the Rangers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while the Knights are ranked 935th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Smithson Valley was led to victory by Wayne Jurica and Wyatt Clemence. Jurica went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and three steals, while Clemence went 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalten Guerra, who posted two points and five assists.

Smithson Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Hanks lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sebastian Meraz, who had nine points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeke Carreon, who put up 14 points.

The win was the third in a row for Smithson Valley, bringing their record for this year to 7-3. As for Hanks, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Smithson Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 83-47 loss against Lake Highlands on the 7th. As for Hanks, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-37 defeat against McNeil on the 7th.
