Softball Recap: Bishop Ireton Comes Up Short

Bishop Ireton lost against Our Lady of Good Counsel back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cardinals fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-2.

Ciara Funk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bishop Ireton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annie Simon, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Simon is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Bishop Ireton dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Ireton will head out to square off against Bishop McNamara at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, they will challenge Elizabeth Seton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elizabeth Seton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
