Softball Recap: Guilford Takes a Loss

Guilford had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-14 to make it five. They lost 16-3 to the Belvidere North Blue Thunder. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Guilford saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Malia Welch, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Belvidere North, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The result was nothing new for Belvidere North, who have now won 12 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Belvidere North's side, Alexis Murphy was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Murphy has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jenna Yakey, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Guilford will venture away from home to square off against Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The J-Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.94 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Belvidere North, they will head out on the road to take on Hononegah at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Blue Thunder's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
