Pembroke Pines Charter saw some tournament action on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over IMG Academy Gold. That's two games straight that the Jaguars have won by just one run.
Martin Pereira was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Christian Morales was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Nova's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to NSU University on Tuesday. Everything went Nova's way against Dr. Joaquin Garcia as Nova made off with an 8-1 victory. The Titans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 24th.
Billy Linder looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Allan Cruz and Jaiden Delgado did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Delgado scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave Delgado a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Angelo Rivas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Nova kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Nova is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. The victory got Pembroke Pines Charter back to even at 8-8-1.
Pembroke Pines Charter came out on top in a nail-biter against Nova in their previous meeting back in February, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pembroke Pines Charter since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
