Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Owls vs. Mexico Bulldogs

The Marshall Owls will square off against the Mexico Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Thursday, Marshall didn't have quite enough to beat Capital City and fell 8-6. That's two games in a row now that the Owls have lost by exactly two runs.

Chase Thompson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Wyatt Griffit was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Mexico had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Thunderbirds. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Mexico let Landon Hilderman and Kaden Benne run wild. Hilderman scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Benne scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Benne a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Drew DeMint, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Mexico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

Mexico's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Marshall, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.
