Preview: DeLand Bulldogs vs. University Titans
DeLand is 5-0 against University since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The DeLand Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the University Titans at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, DeLand rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 35-25 win over Spruce Creek. The win was familiar territory for DeLand who now have four in a row.
DeLand had a senior duo take command as Javon Ross rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries and Tyron Moore rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, University put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to New Smyrna Beach for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-0 victory at home. Given University's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while New Smyrna Beach is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jabailey Morris and Malachi Walters were among the main playmakers for University as the former rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries and the latter threw for 148 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Jermane Hayes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Their wins bumped DeLand to 9-2 and University to 10-1.
DeLand beat University 14-3 in their previous matchup back in October. Does DeLand have another victory up their sleeve, or will University turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
