Basketball Recap: Ryan Thompson J.R.'s Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cook over Fitzgerald

Cook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane, falling 62-39. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 509th, while the Purple Hurricane are ranked 135th).

Cook lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ryan Thompson J.R., who posted ten points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Thompson J.R. a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Jaquavious Johnson, who put up six points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cook was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Cook's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Fitzgerald, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Cook didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 48-20 loss against Tift County on the 28th. As for Fitzgerald, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-53 victory against Irwin County on the 28th.
