Soccer Game Preview: West Anchorage vs. South Anchorage

West Anchorage is 0-10 against South Anchorage since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Wolverines at 5:30 p.m.

West Anchorage is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Service, who was ranked fourth at the time (West Anchorage was ranked ninth). The Eagles came up short against the Cougars on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Having soared to a lofty four goals in the game before, West Anchorage's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, South Anchorage put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their undefeated season alive. Their defense stepped up to hand Bartlett a 12-0 shutout. Give South Anchorage's defense some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

Their offense was hitting Bartlett from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Lexi Luff led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for four goals all by herself.

South Anchorage pushed their record up to 11-0-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 56 goals over those six matchups. As for West Anchorage, they now have a losing record of 6-7-2.

West Anchorage suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to South Anchorage in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
