Soccer Game Preview: East Wilkes vs. Starmount

The East Wilkes Cardinals will head out to square off against the Starmount Rams at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. East Wilkes' offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

East Wilkes came up short against West Iredell on Wednesday, falling 9-1.

Meanwhile, Starmount and Alleghany combined for 20 shots on goal on Tuesday, which explains the impressive five total goals scored. The Rams put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 5-0 victory. That five goal margin sets a new team best for Starmount this season.

They hit Alleghany with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Amy Ocampo (3), Jillian Valerio, and Johana Santos-Ramirez.

Starmount's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for East Wilkes, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

East Wilkes beat Starmount by a goal in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
