Softball Recap: Fike Takes a Loss

Fike lost against Northern Nash two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Fike lost 8-2 to Northern Nash. The Demons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gracie Vincent was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Vincent was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

Vincent wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leyla Lopez, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Even though they lost, Fike hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive games.

Fike's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Northern Nash, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Fike will challenge East Wake at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fike's pitchers better be ready for this one: East Wake has averaged an impressive 11.6 runs per game this season. As for Northern Nash, they will welcome Rocky Mount at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
