Baseball Recap: Hastings Comes Up Short

Hastings had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it ten. They came up short against the Coldwater Cardinals, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-4 on Thursday.

Hastings saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dustin Lampart, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Coldwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Coldwater's side, Rylan Edwards made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Edwards was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joe Hayward, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Owen Tappenden also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Hastings will challenge Holland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Coldwater, they will welcome Western at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
