Basketball Recap: Pasquotank County Takes a Loss

Pasquotank County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 71-27 loss at the hands of the First Flight Nighthawks. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 85th).

Pasquotank County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Veychara Eley, who posted seven points. Shaniyah Harris also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

First Flight was led to victory by Maddy Beatson and Sara Basnight. Beatson went 11 of 23 on her way to 26 points and eight steals, while Basnight went 9 for 13 en route to 18 points and six rebounds. Beatson has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Lila White was another key player, putting up four points.

Pasquotank County's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for First Flight, their record now sits at 9-1.

Pasquotank County will be playing in front of their home fans against Northeastern at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for First Flight, they will head out on the road to challenge Currituck County at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Currituck County has won six straight at home, while First Flight won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
