Baseball Recap: Penfield Comes Up Short

Penfield had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 4-5 to make it five. They fell just short of the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets by a score of 4-3. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Royal Comets earlier this season, when they won 8-7.

Penfield got a good showing from Blake Drews, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Nathan Scozzaro made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Rush-Henrietta's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 21, 2025.

On Rush-Henrietta's side, Matthew Turner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Turner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, Oliver Wright was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Penfield will face off against Irondequoit at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rush-Henrietta, they will take on Brighton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
