Flag Football Game Preview: Bonita Vista Barons vs. Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders

Bonita Vista has gone a perfect 4-0 against Mater Dei Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Barons will challenge the Crusaders at 5:30 p.m. Bonita Vista will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Bonita Vista is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Clairemont: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Barons blew the Chieftains out of the water with a 33-6 final score. Considering the Barons have won seven matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Bonita Vista's win came down to the chemistry between Mia Ramirez and her top target Gabriella Meza. Ramirez threw for 110 yards and four TDs while Meza picked up 32 receiving yards and one score. Ramirez is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Bonita Vista didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Dariyan Wilson, Layla Schoen, Kayla Yaomoto, and Ariana Magdaleno picked up one apiece. Magdaleno got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Mater Dei Catholic won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Otay Ranch 8-7. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 333rd) , the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bonita Vista's record now sits at 13-0. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their record is now 11-1.

Bonita Vista was able to grind out a solid victory over Mater Dei Catholic in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 26-14. Do the Barons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
