A District 7 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Gordonsville extended the longest winning streak in A District 7 this week by beating Pickett County, 55-13. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Tigers.
AJ Long put up the best numbers through the air as Friendship Christian bested Monterey. He finished with a total of four completions for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Long's favorite target this week was Hunter Watts, who caught three passes for 42 yards.
Brannon Hill was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 165 yards as Watertown beat Jackson County. Ty Jobe also contributed to the rushing game with 65 yards on the ground.
Hill was the best wideout in the league this week as the Purple Tigers topped the Blue Devils. Hill tallied seven receptions for 102 yards. Jake Belcher helped Watertown's passing attack out by catching two balls for 16 yards.
Ian Isbell made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Commanders bested the Wildcats. The 6-foot-3 senior grabbed two sacks.
Friendship Christian's Long and Watts have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading A District 7 in both passing and receiving yards. Long has thrown for 1832 yards this season, while Watts, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 21 catches for 542 yards. Kaelin Cason from Gordonsville leads the league in rushing with 1472 yards.
In 98 carries Payton Watson has accumulated 928 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Trousdale County takes on Jackson County. The Yellowjackets are in fourth place, while Sean Loftis' team is in sixth place.
Watertown made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,556 from 8,007. The improvement was the result of 32-25 victory over the Blue Devils last week.
