Baseball Recap: Williams Takes a Loss

Williams extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 25 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-13. They came up short against the Portola Tigers, falling 13-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellowjackets of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Portola, with the win, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-15. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

For Portola's part, Gustavo Sigala was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sigala also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Portola is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-14 otherwise. Sigala was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Powell, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. JJ Ragan was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

While Williams had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
