Baseball Preview: St. John Fighting Herald vs. Chalker Wildcats

The St. John Fighting Herald will head out on the road to take on the Chalker Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. John will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

On Tuesday, while St. John put up some runs, the same can't be said for Lordstown. St. John blew past Lordstown 10-0.

Anthony Severino and Ezra Campbell did most of the damage at the plate: Severino went 2-for-4 with two runs, a triple, and a double, while Campbell scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Aaron Wychock, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Chalker had to endure a six-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They won by a run and slipped past Mathews 9-8. The victory was just what Chalker needed coming off of a 17-3 defeat in their prior matchup.

Chalker let Ryan Herdman and Preston Wolfe loose on the outfield. Herdman went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Wolfe scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Tegun Noble was another key contributor, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

St. John's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. Those victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs per game. As for Chalker, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
