Meanwhile, Cherryville took care of business in their home opener on Friday (barely). They skirted past Avery County 20-18. The win was some much needed relief for the Ironmen as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Cherryville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Enijahe Whitworth picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
Everything came up roses for West Lincoln against Cherryville when the teams last played back in August of 2023 as the squad secured a 68-7 victory. Will West Lincoln repeat their success, or does Cherryville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
