Softball Recap: Carter Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Carter's offense. They came up short against the Cocke County Fighting Cocks on Thursday, falling 10-0. The Green Hornets have struggled against the Fighting Cocks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Taylor Armstrong spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered ten runs (all of which were unearned) on 13 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Carter's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-5. As for Cocke County, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Coming up, Carter will take on Knoxville Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cocke County, they will be playing at home against Farragut at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Cocks 2.5, the Admirals 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
