Softball Recap: Mountain View Wins High-Profile Game Against Sahuarita

Mountain View faced Sahuarita in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mountain Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 9-0 shutout. The Mountain Lions haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Arianna Figueroa made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Danika Stoddard was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Donnely, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matchups.

Mountain View pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sahuarita, their loss dropped their record down to 16-3.

Mountain View has already played their next game, a 7-4 victory against Casa Grande on the 7th. As for Sahuarita, they will challenge Cholla at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.36 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
