League recap: Gila Ridge's Castro delivers best pitching performance from past week

II Section III league recap: 3/20/13

II Section III's top pitcher this week was Gila Ridge's Victor Castro. He picked up two wins and 13 strikeouts.

Matt Mara was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .462 average, two home runs and six RBIs. Saguaro went 1-2.

La Joya Community's 46 strikeouts this week were a league-worst, but Arcadia has struck out more times (101) than any other team this year.

The Sabercats stole 22 bases this week, adding to their league-leading 40 steals on the year.

The league boasted 45 .400 hitters over the past week. The group was paced by Victor Castro, who collected 11 hits in 16 at bats for a .688 average.



Nick Day was an RBI machine on Tuesday, as he knocked in five runs during Agua Fria's 13-11 win over Valley Christian. He went 4-for-5 and scored two runs.

Travis Rowe threw a shutout as he led Williams Field to victory over the Titans, 10-0, on Wednesday. He pitched five scoreless innings and struck out six, while giving up four hits.
