Basketball Recap: Quaker Valley Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Avonworth

Quaker Valley posted their closest victory since January 12, 2024 on Tuesday. They skirted past the Avonworth Antelopes 59-56. The win was all the more spectacular given the Quakers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Antelopes are ranked 34th).

Dana Kromah was a one-man wrecking crew for Quaker Valley as he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. Those 22 points gave Kromah a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Cox-Giles, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 21 rebounds.

Quaker Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Quaker Valley's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Avonworth, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-2.

Quaker Valley will head out on the road to square off against Hopewell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Avonworth, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Beaver at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th.
