Soccer Game Preview: Basalt vs. Aspen

Basalt is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They will look to take advantage of their home pitch for the first time this season as they take on the Aspen Skiers at 5:45 p.m. Basalt's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Last Saturday, Basalt didn't have quite enough to beat Telluride and fell 2-1.

Meanwhile, Aspen kept a clean sheet against Grand Valley on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 6-0 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Skiers considering their one-goal performance the matchup before.

Their offense was hitting Grand Valley from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Lexi Munro led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Aspen now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Basalt, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2-1.

Basalt beat Aspen by a goal in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-2. Does Basalt have another victory up their sleeve, or will Aspen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
