Basketball Recap: Palm Beach Lakes Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Palm Beach Lakes can now relate to. They were dealt a 76-37 loss at the hands of the Dr. Phillips Panthers on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Panthers are ranked 13th).

Despite the defeat, Palm Beach Lakes saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ajyah Haywood went 8-for-18 to rack up 19 points. Haywood continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Brooklyn Jones was another key player, putting up five points.

Dr. Phillips was led to victory by Jamila Ray and Kendall Perry. Ray went 9-for-15 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and five steals, while Perry went 5-for-12 en route to 15 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Horne, who posted three points and 14 rebounds.

Palm Beach Lakes' loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Dr. Phillips, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-9 record this season.

Palm Beach Lakes does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dr. Phillips, they will square off against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dr. Phillips knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Centennial likes a good challenge.
