Volleyball Recap: Luz Gavira's Big Game Can't Quite Lead King/Drew over Port of Los Angeles

King/Drew lost against Port of Los Angeles back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Golden Eagles fell 3-1 to the Polar Bears. While the Golden Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Polar Bears 25-16 in the first set.

King/Drew started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-18.

King/Drew's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luz Gavira, who had 15 assists and 12 digs. Kennedy De La Garza was another key player, getting 12 digs and two aces.

King/Drew's loss ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-7. As for Port of Los Angeles, their win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-5.

King/Drew does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Port of Los Angeles, they will venture away from home to square off against Harbor Teacher at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
