The Grant Pacers will face off against the Foresthill Wildfires at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Grant was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sacramento last Monday. Grant was the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Sacramento. The win was some much needed relief for the Pacers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Niko Hernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kane Fulwider, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Adan Rincon, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Grant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sacramento only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Foresthill didn't have quite enough to beat Delta on Friday and fell 12-11. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (ten), the Wildfires still had to take the loss.
Like Grant, Foresthill also got a great game from a two-way player: David Silveira. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Silveira a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Hunter Byrum was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Grant's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Foresthill, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Grant has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Foresthill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
