Recap: Pana Panthers vs. Newton Eagles
The Pana Panthers were the 79-24 winner over the Newton Eagles when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between Pana and Newton wasn't particularly close, with Pana falling 57-40. While losing is never fun, Pana can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Newton is ranked 162nd).
Pana's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Laker, who scored 20 points. Delaney Hackler was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Pana has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 18 of their last 21 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-23 record this season. As for Newton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-10.
Pana will head out on the road to challenge Vandalia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pana is coming into the match with eight straight losses on the road, meaning Vandalia will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. Newton will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Casey-Westfield at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st.
