Softball Recap: Grapevine's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

If Grapevine was feeling good fresh off their 9-2 takedown of Colleyville Heritage last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Argyle Eagles on Tuesday. The Mustangs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Bella MacMahon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gisele Rayngay was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ashley Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Grapevine's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Argyle, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11.

Looking ahead, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when Grapevine Mustangs challenge Denton Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grapevine is facing Denton at the right time seeing as Denton is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Argyle, they will welcome Colleyville Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
