Aquilla put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Gholson to the tune of 88-0. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Gholson are ranked 234th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Andrew Snipes and Aiden Flores. Snipes rushed for 53 yards and one TD while Flores rushed for 31 yards and one score. Ryan Hill got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Aquilla was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 204 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Aquilla didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of TC Hennig and Rayce Yrios. Hennig is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Aquilla's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Gholson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
